I voted today. For the first time ever. Circumstances prevented me from voting in the last election and I didn't know slash care enough about things like early voting or mailing voting. Any-Hoo... I voted. It was pretty uneventful and took all of 3 minutes.
I was pretty proud of myself for listening to the political "mumbo jumbo" this year and sorting through it all and then forming my own opinion about the candidates. I'm pretty easily persuaded about things in general. Commercials are the worst. If I watch commercials I am convinced I have RLS, that I should be driving a BMW, that I'm hungry for a steak dinner, or that I need a Bump-It for my hair. I don't have RLS, I can't afford a BMW, I don't like steak, and I would be embarrassed to be seen in a BumpIt. If I'm watching TV and a commercial comes on promoting one candidate I think, "Oh my, that's right. I agree with him." The very next commercial and I do mean the. very. next. commercial. can be the opposite candidate and I will think, "What was I thinking? This is the guy to go with." Although I must say, I hate how candidates always attack the other party and try to make each other seem like horrible people. Clearly, everybody who runs for any position loves their country to some degree and can't all be drug smuggling-baby killing-alchoholic-blackmailing-communists who once kicked a puppy and cut an old lady in line.
So, I stuck with my opinion (even when Jim had an opposite one) and I voted. Do I think my vote mattered? Not really, but I'm glad I didn't allow someone else to make my choices for me and took advantage of the rights I have as a free American.
Mostly, I'm just glad this election is going to be over soon and I won't be getting any more political emails from people telling me that if I don't pray for so and so to win I'm not a Christian and if I vote for so and so I am allowing my future children to grow up in a world where we are forced to become Muslims. Just don't send me that garbage folks. Just don't.
